REALITY PROGRAMMING

Audio for commercial production requires a multifaceted approach. It demands that a recordist analyze the sonic challenges for each project and know which type of microphone to use in any situation. It demands a spirit of cooperation with the director of photography to understand each shot in the commercial so that your boom mic doesn’t make an unwanted guest appearance! It demands being observant of the lighting director’s activities so that your mic doesn’t cast a shadow on a “perfect take”. It demands communication with the director so that you know when and how to hide a lavalier mic if necessary. It also demands sucking up to the location manager and the ad agency person for your next job! Some of our commercial clients include I.W. CORPORATE PRODUCTION

Audio for corporate production sometimes needs a different skill set in addition to what one knows about recording sound. It requires the recordist (and the whole crew, for that matter) to be part cheerleader, part coach and part therapist. Many times, the talent is someone who is not altogether media savvy. In those cases, it is the crew’s job to make the person more relaxed in front of the camera, offer (in a non-threatening way) helpful hints to improve the person’s delivery/believability and give them encouragement when they get a little frustrated. You do this in the hopes that a) the client will end up with a product that is far above their expectations and b) the client will buy you a very nice lunch.
